Father and Son - Live Friday at 8 pm!

The duo “Father & Son” is an exciting collaboration of one of West Virginia’s most seasoned folk performers along with a 12-year-old fiddle playing phenom from Northern California. The “Father”, Papa Weely (a.k.a., Mick Souter), has toured the country for years appearing along side notables such as Dave Mason, John Hartford, The Dillards, The Kingston Trio, and Dan Seals. The “Son”, William Condit-Souter is, in fact Mick’s 12-year-old son, who has been playing Appalachian style fiddle since he was 5 years old. They perform a surprising repertoire of music that includes the afore mentioned Appalachian style fiddle tunes, classic soft rock favorites (no AC/DC or Grand Funk), folk and bluegrass standards, and some originals.

MICK SOUTER is West Virginia’s BARD OF EDUCATION, the state’s leading educational performing artist who combines songs and stories to both educate and entertain. Mick Souter has presented more than 3,000 concert programs over the past eighteen years in theaters, state parks, colleges, festivals and concert venues such as Tamarack, The Cultural Center in Charleston, Mountain Stage, Snowshoe. Mick is a singer and storyteller as well as a versatile multi-instrumentalist who performs on a variety of instruments including banjo, guitar, dulcimer, violin, auto harp, mandolin, piano, recorder and harmonica. Mick’s up-beat shows are designed to encourage a great deal of audience participation, insuring that everyone gets involved in an active, dynamic way. These programs have been wildly successful over the past 20 years, providing a culturally rich entertainment feature suitable for family audiences of all ages.

William Condit-Souter is a West Virginia native who has been transplanted into the fertile soil of Sonoma County, California north of San Fransisco. Amidst the sea breezes blowing off the Pacific Ocean ten miles west of his home and the Redwood Forest fifteen miles north, William has ripened on the vine like fine California wine grapes. He has taken the base of fiddle lessons and stylistics provided by his father from the ages of 5 through 9 and has added to that under the tutelage of one of Northern California’s finest fiddle players, Dan Kahane. William’s ear and ability to spontaneously add wonderful fiddle lines to most any type of music is something only found in musicians twice his age.

Father & Son will get your feet tapping, your hands clapping and your voice singing, sometimes even in spite of yourself. Come join the fun, the singing, the camaraderie and join in with Father & Son on Friday, July 15 at the 123 from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m.
